A Virginia man was so sick and tired of area kids trespassing onto his property that he installed an electric fence around the perimeter of his yard to keep them out. According to WRIC, Bryan Tucker’s house is basically right next to a bus stop in Henrico County and kids regularly trampled through his lawn on the way to and from school. Eventually, he’d had enough.

Neighbors called police when the fence went up. Tucker’s neighbors complained that not only did he not warn them that an electric fence was going up around the property but the fence itself posed a safety hazard that area parents didn’t want to risk. “It’s insane,” said one parent who wished to remain anonymous.

Parents are really worried about their kids getting electrocuted. Neighbor Wayne Milby said that as a parent, he was especially concerned that kids going to or coming home from school might accidentally touch the fence and get seriously injured. “Me, I’m a parent and I don’t want any children to get electrocuted,” he explained.

Tucker was at his wit’s end. Not only were kids trampling through his property but they were regularly throwing trash there as they went, and Tucker wasn’t having it anymore. “I’m not in charge of other people’s children,” he said. “All I can do is protect myself, and that’s why I’ve got a fence up.” He added, “They don’t respect other peoples’ land. I pick up trash every day.”

He was asked to take the fence down. Police eventually told Tucker that the fence had to go because it was on an easement, making it illegal. However, they told him that he was free to put it up again so long as he kept it along the perimeter of his own property. He did eventually take it down and said he hoped he wouldn’t have to put it back up and that people had gotten the message.
