Boko Haram terrorists behead six in Borno

Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly beheaded six woodcutters in a recent attack in Borno state.

The incident, which came to light on Monday, took place late last week.

One of the survivors, Ali Musa, said the men rode to the bush last Thursday in search of firewood to sell. However, he stated that they were attacked by the terrorists.

“Six people were killed. They were beheaded,” he told Anadolu Agency.

Also, some residents said they recovered four corpses on the day of the attack; adding that two other corpses were discovered the following day. The incident was not reported until late Monday due to poor communication and the remoteness of the area.

The sect has been involved in an insurgency against the Nigerian government that has spanned over a decade. The conflict has resulted in the death of thousands; while nearly two million residents have been displaced from the North East, the hotbed of the crisis.

Anadolu reports that Damboa, the town where the latest attack occurred, is around 87 kilometers (54 miles) from Maiduguri; Borno state’s capital.

The group has claimed responsibility for most of the violent attacks in the region.

Meanwhile, popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has revealed the sect may have infiltrated bandits across the country.

Gumi made this assertion while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Monday, February 22.

“I can say categorically that they (bandits) are not Boko Haram. But we have to be very careful, because if the pressure is too much, Boko Haram being more international, more connected; may be richer. I am afraid they (bandits) can be influenced… And we have seen the signs that Boko Haram wants to infiltrate them; but so far, they are not Boko Haram, they are ready to lay down their arms.

“There was an incident that happened in Zamfara during the former regime. The Fulani themselves caught some elements of Boko Haram and presented them to the government.

”So, they are not Boko Haram, they are citizens, they recognise authority. They are ready to lay down their arms and that is why we have to act fast,” Sheikh Gumi said.
