Reps implore security agencies to expedite rescue of abducted Kagara schoolchildren

The House of Reps has urged the security agencies to speed up the rescue of the Kagara schoolchildren.

According to the Reps, it was worrisome that the longer it takes, the more difficult it will be to rescue them.

The matter was raised as a motion of urgent public importance by Honourable Unyime Idem, on Tuesday, February 23.

1st News had reported that armed men on February 17, attacked the Government Science College Kagara; located in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, shooting sporadically.

A student, Benjamin Habila was shot and killed by the bandits on the school premises while several others were abducted.

Some teachers and their family members residing within the college staff quarters were also said to have been abducted by the gunmen.

The operations started from the staff quarters and ended in the students’ hostels and in the process; other students were also wounded by gunshots.

The gunmen gathered some staff and students at a place for hours; before moving them out of the school premises to an unknown destination. They wore military uniform and entered the school premises which had about 1000 students; overpowered the security guard, before whisking away the students and staff.

Meanwhile, the House of Reps Committee on Air Force has issued commiserations to the Nigerian Air Force as well as families of the victims of the ill-fated military aircraft that crashed in Abuja on Sunday, February 21.

1st News also gathered that seven persons were confirmed dead in the incident involving a NAF Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft.

Chairman of the Reps committee, Shehu Koko, said, “We highly regret the loss of our gallant officers who apparently were on a mission to rescue the kidnapped students in the Kagara community in Niger State.”

He said, “This is to confirm that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed; while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure en route Minna. First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all seven personnel on board died in the crash. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
