Kidnappers demand N10m for Chinese miners



Kidnappers who abducted two Chinese miners in Osun State have made a N10m ransom demand.

This was disclosed by the Osun State Police Command on Wednesday.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Yemisi Opalola, said this on Wednesday; while giving an update on the kidnapping incident to newsmen in Osogbo.

The miners were abducted by the kidnappers at a gold mine in Ifewara, Osun on Monday.

Opalola explained that the Command was intensifying efforts towards ensuring that the Chinese nationals were rescued unharmed. She added that the Command was working alongside other security operatives to ensure that the victims were released.

However, she urged residents of the state to equally help with credible information on the activities of criminals in the state.

The Chinese nationals — Zhao Jian, 33 and Wen, 50 –were abducted on Monday. They were whisked away by their kidnappers at a mining site in Okepa/Itikan village; located in Ifewara, Atakunmosa-West Local Government Area of Osun.

Further, their abductors were reported to have also shot two private guards of the miners who were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, there is palpable tension and unease in Benue State following the ambush and brutal killing of soldiers deployed to the state.

1st News reports that the soldiers were deployed on a peace mission at Konshisha.

Equally important, sources in the local government area of Konshisha revealed that the soldiers were ambushed; leading to the death of about personnel. Further, sources claim that the perpetrators were suspected to be militia members.
