Gorilla Who Became Online Sensation After Posing For Selfie With Ranger Sadly Passes Away

The mountain gorilla who became a viral online sensation around the world after posting for a selfie with a park ranger has passed away. The orphaned animal, named Ndakasi, died at the age of 14 in the arms of the park ranger who rescued her at Virunga National Park in eastern Congo this week.

Andre Bauma had been part of Ndakasi’s life from the beginning. The gorilla was rescued when she was only two months old when she was found clinging to her mother, who had sadly been killed by poachers. She was cared for by Bauma, who held her and comforted her throughout her young life.

Ndakasi was loved around the world. After appearing in a selfie with her fellow orphan Ndeze with park ranger Mathieu Shamavu in 2019, she became a sensation around the world by animal lovers who were tickled by the sheer amount of personality shown by Ndakasi and Ndeze. This makes the news of Ndakasi’s passing even harder to swallow.

Bauma, Ndaskasi’s caretaker, was with her until the very end. Virunga National Park posted the announcement of the animal’s passing on Facebook this week, sharing that the 14-year-old passed away in the arms of Bauma and sharing a photo showing the animal’s last moments. “It was a privilege to support and care for such a loving creature, especially knowing the trauma Ndakasi suffered at a very young age,” Bauma said. “One could say that she took after her mother, Nyiransekuye, whose name means ‘someone happy to welcome others.’”

She had been sick for a while. While Ndaskasi lived happily at the Senkwekwe Centre at the park for more than a decade, the “beloved” gorilla passed away on September 26 after a “prolonged illness in which her condition rapidly deteriorated.” Thank goodness Bauma was there to comfort her.

Bauma and everyone at Virunga will miss Ndakasi forever. “It was Ndakasi’s sweet nature and intelligence that helped me to understand the connection between humans and Great Apes and why we should do everything in our power to protect them,” Bauma shared. “I am proud to have called Ndakasi my friend. I loved her like a child and her cheerful personality brought a smile to my face every time I interacted with her. She will be missed by all of us at Virunga but we are forever grateful for the richness Ndakasi brought to our lives during her time at Senkwekwe.”

Demi Lovato Says We Should Stop Calling Extraterrestrials ‘Aliens’ Because It’s Offensive

Demi Lovato has some very… interesting opinions that they’ve been voicing lately, but their latest outcry is perhaps one of the most bizarre yet. The ‘Dancing with the Devil’ singer is campaigning against the idea of referring to extraterrestrial beings as “aliens” as they believe it’s extremely offensive to those who visit us from other planets. This despite the fact that the term has been used for many decades and is referring to beings that arguably don’t even exist.

Yes, calling other human beings “aliens” can be offensive. Referring to immigrants or refugees as “aliens” has a certain connotation that can be offensive as it implies that they don’t belong and are “othered.” However, using this term for, you know, mythical creatures of which there’s no proof they even exist (don’t tell Demi Lovato that) is a whole other matter.

Demi thinks we just need to call them extraterrestrials or ETs. When discussing visitors to Earth from other planets, we should welcome them by simply referring to them with more neutral language rather than using the term “aliens” even though any beings from other planets likely won’t even know what the hell “aliens” means or even think or speak in the same way we do here on Earth.

So why does Demi feel this way? As they told Pedestrian.TV in a recent interview, Demi said they think that the word “alien” is derogatory in any context, so it should be avoided at all costs. “I really think that if there was anything out there that would want to do that to us, it would have happened by now,” they said. “But, I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything. That’s why I like to call them ETs! So yeah, that’s a little tidbit. A little information that I learned.”

By the way, Demi has a new TV show about extraterrestrials coming out. It’ll be on Peacock TV and it’s called Unidentified with Demi Lovato. The show follows Demi and their friend Matthew and their sister Dallas while they look for “the truth about the UFO phenomena.” Hopefully, if they find anything, the ETs will be impressed at their welcoming, inclusive language.

Woman Says Her Pet Toucan’s Extreme Separation Anxiety Means She Can’t Ever Go On Vacation

A woman who adopted a pet toucan two years ago has admitted she struggles witn looking after the bird at times. Janelle Tsao, 35, took Touki into her home in Los Angeles but the animal’s severe separation anxiety has meant that she can’t leave him alone in the house and hasn’t been on vacation since she got him.

Toucans only bond with one human. As birds, toucans are monogamous both in terms of mating and the humans that they bond with. This means that whenever Janelle leaves the room, Touki will “croak call or screech loudly” until she comes back, however long it takes. “It can be very annoying, like a screaming parrot,” she said.

Having Touki is like having a child. Toucans aren’t small birds, so having such a large one in the house poses its challenges. “It’s like having a child, he’s beautiful, intuitive and always curious,” Janelle explains. “These birds are like flying toddlers or monkeys – they will get into everything. Yesterday, I was chopping tomatoes and placed them in a bowl with a lid, which he isn’t allowed to have, they’re too acidic. He flies down to the counter and lifted the lid and stole a tomato, then he flew up to the second floor of our loft and quickly swallowed it before I could even start climbing!”

His diet is pretty expensive. Touki doesn’t just eat plain birdseed – he eats lots of fresh and exotic fruits and vegetables including blueberries, palm dates, lychee, and sweet potatoes. This ends up costing about $80 a month.

Oh, and he poops a lot too. Apparently, toucans poop every five to 10 minutes, which is crazy! Touki tends to do it while he’s flying around the house, and Janelle shares it can be “any color of the rainbow.” This means they’ve had to poo-proof most of the house. “We plasticize all of our couches, clean up any poops that don’t make the designated liners,” she said. “Caretaking for a toucan is high maintenance!”

Janelle wouldn’t recommend a toucan as a pet, but she loves Touki. She and her girlfriend, 40-year-old Arielle Zarutsky, saw him at a breeder’s in 2019 and fell in love with him. “Our hearts just melted. He was very quiet and I guess shy in the cage,” she recalled. “I think it’s because he was injured and he had scab like things in his feathers. I made the commitment right there, that I would do whatever it took to love and care for him. It was always a dream of mine to care for a toucan.”

Police Find And Arrest Prosthetic Leg Thief With Stolen Limb Strapped To His Head

An Oklahoma man was arrested for armed robbery, the Tulsa Police Department said, after he reportedly stole a prosthetic leg from the victim. As Fox25 reports, Kevion Hooks approached the man with a large metal spike in his hand before taking his backpack and limb and asking how much both were worth. It didn’t take officers long to catch up with him and put him behind bars.

Hooks gave no reasoning for his robbery of the leg. However, given his curiosity as to the worth of the item, it’s clear he had an intention of selling them on for money. Thankfully, he never got that far.

When police found Hooks, he was wearing the prosthetic leg. He actually had it strapped to his head when they arrested him. It’s again unclear what made Hooks do this, but from the looks of his mugshot, it seems safe to say that drugs likely played a part in what went down.

Police removed the leg from Hooks’ head. They then returned it to the rightful owner, they say. It was not mentioned whether or not the backpack and its contents were found and returned as well.
