The nationwide congress held by the All Progressives Congress, APC, across the States of the federation has produced two chairmen in Enugu State.

DAILY POST reports that earlier on Saturday, a former commissioner in Enugu State, Chief Ugo Agballah was announced as winner in one of the locations in the State. He belongs to a faction of the party which has the backing of former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.

However, while he was jubilating, an election was taking place at the Enugu State Secretariat of the APC, where the pioneer Deputy Chairman of the Party in the State, Comrade Adolphus Ude emerged winner.

Ude polled a total of 782 out of the 1, 300 votes cast during the exercise by delegates from the 260 political wards in the State.

He defeated Dr. Charles Chukwu who scored 202 votes, while Chief Benson Eze, who came a distant third, got 142 votes.

Ude was elected with the full members of the State Executive.

Chairman of the Enugu State Congress Committee, Mr. Jonathan Akaya, announced Ude as the winner.

Speaking during the exercise, the outgoing State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Party, Dr. Ben Nwoye commended the congress delegates from all the three Senatorial districts of the State for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves throughout the exercise.

Nwoye, however, lambasted Nnamani, for spearheading a parallel congress in a private facility in Enugu, rather than coming to the State party Secretariat as director by the national leadership of the APC.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was declared winner, the new Enugu APC boss, Ude, said “I really feel fulfilled today, and want to say, to God be the glory, because it’s God that made it possible.

“I also want to commend in a special way, the Dr. Ben Nwoye-led exco and the Enugu state congress committee for conducting a free and fair election today.”

He promised to build on the feats recorded by the outgoing Chairman, Nwoye, whom he said, did well while piloting the affairs of the party in the State.

Elected alongside Comrade Ude were Chief Anike Nworga, who clinched the position of the Deputy Chairman, while the former State Administrative Secretary, Mr. Eva Asadu emerged as the Secretary of the party.

Others are Hon. Chuks Patrick Owo, Publicity Secretary, with 367 votes, beating his opponent, Hon. Kelvin Okenwa who scored 341, Hon Mrs Favour Asogwa emerged the State woman leader with 503 votes, to defeat Lolo Queen Nwankwo who scored 408 votes.

Also elected by the Congress, which ended around after 10 pm, were Mr. Chuks Adibe, Treasurer, Dr. Oby Aji, Financial Secretary, Hon. Ifeanyi Ede, Organising Secretary, Chukwudi Igwe, Legal Adviser, Sunny Umabi, Zonal Vice Chairman, Enugu East.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that Chime, Onyeama and other stalwarts of APC in the State were more disposed to the candidacy of a former military governor of Gombe State, Group Captain Joe Orji, who alongside other contestants boycotted the parallel congress held at an event center.

Simba TVS, Nigeria’s leading tricycle company has launched the brand new TVS King Deluxe+ tricycle, with revolutionary iTouch technology. Aimed at creating an easier, safer and more comfortable riding experience, the innovative new starting system of the vehicle is a product of extensive research and development by TVS Motor Company – one of the world’s largest two- and three-wheeler companies.

At a glittering event held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, the Simba Group launched the TVS King Deluxe+ with iTouch, which contains several upgraded features and enhancements over existing models, with the revolutionary new starting system forming the cornerstone of this next generation vehicle.

This iTouch feature assures a one-touch noiseless start and is made possible as a result of a new starting system that completely eliminates the starter motor. This not only reduces the frequency of wear on parts, but also reduces fuel consumption resulting in significantly reduced operating costs of the vehicle. The rider also enjoys a starting mechanism that is more convenient and comfortable, and an enhanced riding experience overall as a result.

Ondo missing child: Blood of those behind my ordeal will decay – Prophet Alfa

Following the Court of Appeal judgment, which overturned the life imprisonment conviction of the founder of Sobitobire Praising Chapel, Prophet Babatunde Alfa by an Ondo State High Court, the Prophet has finally left the Olokuta Correctional facility, Akure, the state capital.

While stepping out of the facility, Prophet Alfa, who rained curses on those behind his ordeal, stated that the blood and water in their body will decay.

The Akure division of the Appeal Court had on December 3, 2021 set free Prophet Alfa after faulting the circumstantial evidence upon which he was convicted over the disappearance of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole in his Church in November 2019.

Prophet Alfa, who perfected all his exit papers from the prison on Tuesday evening, had been in prison since December 2019 when his trial started.

The Prophet, who looked more fresh and chubby, was received at the entrance of the correctional centre by his counsel, Akinyele Omoware, as well as members of his immediate family led by his wife, Bisola.

The Prophet, who was elated, said “I’m free, I’m now a free man. God pulled me out with mercy. I’m delivered from the walls of prison. He delivered me from false accusations. God delivered from the tribulation of envy.

“I was picked from the Church straight to prison. This tribulation started on a Sunday service. I have cried to God to expose all those behind the matter. No matter how powerful they are, Jesus will expose them. The blood and water in their body will begin to decay.

“Any man or woman involved in how I was sent to prison without doing the proper investigation will soon be exposed. God I thank you, thank you Jesus.”

Meanwhile, members of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel have converged on the church in their numbers to give a rousing welcome to their prophet who has been in incarceration for almost two years.

Justice Olusegun Odusola of the Ondo State High Court had on October 6, 2020 sentenced Prophet Alfa to life imprisonment over what he described as his complicity in the mysterious disappearance of the 13-month-old boy in his church at Oshinle quarters, Akure.

Prophet Alfa, who was sentenced by the lower court alongside five workers of his church on a two-count charge of conspiracy as well as aiding and abetting kidnapping, had approached the Appeal Court to nullify the life imprisonment sentence.

Recall that trouble started for the Prophet following a petition to the Department of State Security, DSS, by parents of the missing boy who cried out that they could not find their son after dropping him at the church’s children department on November 10, 2019.

The situation reached its crescendo on December 18, 2019, when angry youths attacked and razed the church over rumours that the corpse of the missing baby had been exhumed from the church’s altar.

NWFL bans Osogbo stadium from hosting matches over deplorable condition

The Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) has declared that the Osogbo Township Stadium is no longer suitable to host any of its league matches in the state.

This was made known in a letter dated December 6, 2021, with reference number NWFL/COO/ADM/NWPC/Vol.1/189 and signed by Modupe Shabi, its Chief Operating Officer.

According to the letter, the decision to declare the stadium unfit for league matches was arrived at after an inspection of the structure.

The letter, which declared that the current state of the stadium is not good enough to host any of the NWFL matches until it is fixed, also stated that the body hoped that the necessary facelift will be carried out on the stadium facility.

As a result of the directive, all home matches of the Osun Babes Football Club in the 2021/2022 NWFL Premiership Season will be played at the Lanre Leke Stadium, Ile-Ogbo, Osun State.

Reacting, a former Osun United Football Club press officer and Secretary, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun Chapter, Tajudeen Ahmad, stated that there are certain standard requirements for approval of home venues for clubs.

Ahmad added that if this were not met, appropriate sanctions was expected from the league management as in the case of Osun Babes.

In his words, “I could remember the last time NFF President, Amaju Pinnick came to Osogbo. He wasn’t satisfied with the condition of the pitch and promised to inform the Governor about it but nothing has been done up till now.”

While lamenting that it is unfortunate that Osun cannot have a standard stadium in spite of the high level of the state’s involvement in sports and the number of budding talents it has produced, Ahmad stressed that good performance of players and clubs is a function of a good pitch.

Expressing optimism that that state government will find a solution to the current problem, the Osun SWAN scribe noted that it is a challenge on those at the helms of affairs to do something on the pitch, dressing room and other areas identified by the NWFL.

“I hope there won’t be a double standard by NWFL cos there are many stadiums not up to the standard of Osogbo Township Stadium in Nigeria and league matches are approved to be played there. They should maintain fairness and justice in their decision to all teams,” he said.

The impact of the change in match venue he highlighted will be that Osun Babes will miss the support of many Osogbo fans, unfamiliar pitch in Ile-Ogbo, business opportunities near the Osogbo stadium will be negatively impacted.

Others he stated include; the stress of travelling between Osogbo and Ile-Ogbo for the players and loss of revenue for the FA and Sports Council due to free entrance to the match arena.
