COVID-19 vaccine: Pharmacists take campaign to rural dwellers

A group, the Noble Foundation Pharmacists has urged members of the profession to take the message of the COVID-19 vaccine to rural communities.

This came amidst all manner of claims against the COVID-19 vaccine, a development that has been discouraging several people from taking the vaccine.

In a press statement by the President of the Foundation, Chief Pharm. Chidiebere Ugwu, he said there was an urgent need for an aggressive campaign on COVID-19 vaccination in order to kill off “unfounded claims”.

According to Ugwu, “Nigeria pharmacists need to intensify efforts towards convincing the masses to take the vaccine.

“We all know that as it stands, there is no known cure for COVID-19. All we need to do now is to adhere to the non-pharmaceutical measures and then take the two jabs of the vaccine. This is the only way we can help the society and help ourselves.

“The world has been in chaos since the beginning of the pandemic in 2019. This has crippled the world socially, culturally, politically and economically.

“We also know that COVID-19 imposed lockdown has brought depressions and manner of things to various homes; that is why we all need to collaborate and limit its threat on the globe.”

He noted that “the only way to get back to normalcy was through vaccination. Unfortunately, many people are yet to get this vaccine.

“Pharmacists are then encouraged to seize this opportunity to not only educate the masses about the importance of getting vaccinated but also give the shots themselves.

“The host and the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa is in total support of this call as he has also on several occasions urged the Pharmacists to get necessary training that will enable them to effectively deliver jabs to the citizenry.”

PSG: You need to justify ‘nightmare trio’ – Berbatov to Messi, Neymar, Mbappe

Dmitar Berbatov

Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, has urged Paris Saint-Germain stars, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, to justify their label as the “nightmare trio.”

Berbatov believes Messi, Neymar and Mbappe have not fulfilled their expectations yet at PSG.

DAILY POST reports that this is coming less than two days after PSG lost 2-1 to Manchester City in a Champions League tie on Wednesday.

“I don’t think PSG’s star-studded frontline is working at the moment. I think there is a glimpse of what it can be, but it’s not there yet. They are trying, I can see that. But at the same time, when they play big teams like Man City, you could sometimes see that they knew exactly how this trio was going to play, how they were going to pass – they were predictable – and the City players read the game and knew how to stop it.

“They [Messi, Neymar, Mbappe] need to do a lot of work to make it click.

“Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe need to justify that label of ‘the nightmare trio’ for the defence. They can produce a much better play and help the team produce good results,” Berbatov wrote in his Betfair column.

Messi has scored just four goals and registered two assists in 10 appearances across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.

Neymar has scored just three goals and provided three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions for PSG.

Mbappe, on the other hand, has scored nine goals and registered 12 assists.

According to The Athletic, Rangnick will meet with Carrick and McKenna in the coming days as he has already requested at least one new coach to add to his coaching staff.

The report added that the 63-year-old would also be allowed to bring in two of his trusted assistants, with Lars Kornetka – who worked with him at Hoffenheim, Schalke and RB Leipzig – set to join his long-time friend at Old Trafford as his right-hand man.

Rangnick is on the verge of becoming Man United’s interim manager until the end of the current season.

The former RB Leipzig manager has reached an agreement with Man United on a six-month contract and will then take up a two-year consultancy role.

The German has a history of developing coaches and Man United feel they have already invested a lot of time, resources and money into Carrick and McKenna and do not want to see that go to waste, with the pair potentially even joining the permanent manager’s staff next summer.
