The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has debunked reports about the issuance of a sit-at-home order in the South-East on Monday and Tuesday next week.

This disclaimer was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, in response to reports making the rounds that the secessionist group declared a sit-at-home.

According to Powerful, the reports were created by government agents in a bid to create confusion and enmity for the group amongst the residents.

An excerpt from the statement reads, “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been drawn to the fabricated statement being circulated by mischief makers and paid agents of darkness that IPOB had directed Biafrans to sit-at-home Monday, October 18; Tuesday, October 19; and Thursday, October 21 for our leader, and One year anniversary of #EndSARS protest.

“We want to make it categorically clear that the above purported statement did not emanate from IPOB, and we completely dissociate with such falsehood. IPOB did not issue any sit-at-home except on October 21 when our leader is expected to appear in court.

“We therefore urge members of the public to ignore the purported statement and utter falsehood being peddled by paid agents of government to create confusion and demarket IPOB. Their intention is to portray IPOB as a violent and insensitive movement but we know their antics, and shall beat them to it.”

Powerful said IPOB only declared a sit-at-home on Thursday, October 21 because its leader, Nnamdi Kanu is expected to appear in court.

“For the sake of clarity, IPOB has not called for any sit-at-home except on Thursday, October 21 when our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will appear in court in Abuja. Biafrans will solidarise with him by staying indoors on that day because we are all in the struggle together. He did nothing to deserve any persecution by the Federal Government.

“We seriously warn all those behind this rumour to retrace their steps and stop tarnishing the good image of IPOB,” he added.

IPOB accuses Nigerian govt of staging jailbreaks to keep Kanu in detention

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised an alarm about an alleged ploy by the Federal Government to keep its leader Nnamdi Kanu in detention indefinitely.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, who said: “We are putting the world on notice of this evil game being played by the FG in a bid to ensure that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is held in perpetuity in the DSS dungeon.”

The group further spoke of the ploy being allegedly hatched by the Department of State Services (DSS) towards ensuring Kanu remains in its detention while bemoaning the lack of investigations into the recurrent jailbreaks.

The statement read in part, “Our Intelligence reports and findings reveal that once there is any person of interest in the custody of the DSS that is scheduled to be transferred from their detention facility to prison custody, they arrange these prison breaks in order to convince the court that the prison is not safe and is susceptible to attacks and jailbreaks, and as such, the person in their custody should not be transferred to the prison.

“This is why no meaningful investigation is ever carried out on these alleged prison breaks throughout Nigeria.

“This is further evidenced from what happened in the court on the 21st October 2021, when the hearing of our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s application for transfer to prison custody came up. The road to the court and even the court premises were barricaded on all sides by security agents, such that lawyers and other responsible persons who had legitimate business in the court could not drive close to the court premises, as they claimed that they had a security report that there will be an attack.

“Curiously, the “attackers” who were clearly government-sponsored thugs were allowed to drive past all the security posts mounted on the road, and down to where the DSS officers formed a human barricade to attack Omoyele Sowore.

“The same thing happened on the 10th November 2021, when they hired the “One Nigeria Crooners” who came to confront Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s peaceful supporters who had always been there on the previous court days, without constituting any nuisance or breach of peace.”

Dark horses trying to destroy APC, says Patriotic Association

A group, Zamfara State Patriotic Association, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and elders of the All progressives Congress (APC) to save the party from the hands of some dark horses.

On Wednesday, the chairman of the group, Ibrahim Nabature, made the call while addressing a press conference in Gusau, Zamfara.

“There are some dark horses trying to destroy the party before the 2023 general elections if things do not go their way,” said Mr Nabature.

He further stated that the group had observed with dismay that some governors were bent on destroying APC, citing the crisis rocking the party in several states after their congresses as attempts to destroy the party.

The group’s chairman appealed to Mr Buhari and party elders to intervene and rescue the party.

“Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, a foundation member of the APC, had at no time ever discussed or thought of leaving the party without the knowledge of his true supporters across the country,” he said.

Mr Nabature explained that Mr Yari’s faction of the APC was in court challenging the dissolution of the Lawal M. Liman-led caretaker committee in Zamfara.

“Therefore, he cannot abandon the party he helped to build for newcomers. It is the handwork of some forces who were his friends now turned enemies,” he added. “Yari had done so much for Zamfara and the APC in the state and at the national level.”

He fingered some governors, who he described as agents of destruction working to strangulate the party before the 2023 elections due to their selfish reasons.

The Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee had dissolved the party executives shortly after Governor Bello Matawalle defected to the APC on June 29.
