Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has claimed that some sources within Aso Rock revealed to him that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to embark on another medical trip to London, United Kingdom.

The socio-political activist who made the claim via a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday night, warned the President to shelve the plan, stressing that he (Buhari) will be harassed as usual.

DAILY POST recalls that the former media aide to Nigerian ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan had during Buhari’s recent medical trip to London, stormed the Abuja House with other activists to harass the President back to Nigeria.

Omokri had constantly argued that President Buhari’s inability to fix public health facilities was responsible for his incessant trip to London for medical attention.

In the Facebook post, Omokri vowed that if the President peradventure fails to heed to his warning, there would be mega protest in London.

… reads, “I understand from my sources within Aso Rock that General Buhari is planning another London health vacation.

“My counsel to him is that he should perish the thought.

“The last time he tried it, we surrounded his premises during Harass Buhari Out of London. I only made a judgment call to temporarily suspend the action because of Ramadan and my respect for the Muslim Ummah.

“However, if he tries it this time around, we will give him the mother of all Harass Buhari out of London rally. If you want healthcare, build hospitals for yourself and Nigerians.

Geodesists proffer solution to incessant building collapse in Lagos, others

Geodesists under the auspices of the Nigeria Association of Geodesy (NAG) have said that lack of deformation surveys for monitoring of structures is the major factor responsible for frequent building collapse in Lagos State and other major cities in the country.

The association, which is a group of scientists and researchers specialised in scientific areas of surveying, said this in a communique issued at the end of their annual conference, theme “Geodetic Solutions to Multi-Disciplinary Problems”, held at Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

DAILY POST recalls that a 21-story building collapsed on November 1st in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State. No fewer than 40 people lost their lives as a result of the incident.

Our correspondent recalls that another building on November 17th collapsed in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

NAG has however said that the absence of deformation surveys for monitoring of structures such as high-rise buildings, bridges, and dams is responsible for the frequent building collapse in Lagos and other cities.

The association, in the communique made available to DAILY POST through its President, Professor Timothy Oluwadare Idowu, insisted that the only solution to reduce incessant building collapse is to ensure speedy implementation and compliance to the Federal Government’s policy on deformation monitoring of infrastructures.

NAG suggested that an acceptable format for the generation and presentation of deformation monitoring data should also be developed, in order to reduce incessant building collapse across the country.

The association explained that the alarming rate of retreating Lake Chad is a major international boundary issue that has consequential conflict potentials in the country.

It observed that the “Absence of deformation surveys for monitoring of structures such as high-rise buildings, bridges and dams is responsible for the frequent collapses of such structures in the country.

“Inadequate monitoring and poor understanding of subterraneous activities particularly in areas of intensive mining results in the poor estimation of the environmental impacts of these activities.

“Lack of accurate geoid model for the country is a major problem in the development of a common and unified reference system for the country. Insufficiency of gravity data in the country is a setback for geoid determination and modeling.

“The alarming rate of retreating Lake Chad is a major international boundary issue which has consequential conflict potentials for major socio-economic and national security concerns”.

NAG while speaking further suggested that there is a need to ensure speedy implementation and compliance to the Federal Government’s policy on deformation monitoring of infrastructures so as to reduce incessant cases of building collapse in the country.

“Speedy implementation and compliance to the Federal Government’s policy on deformation monitoring of infrastructures. An acceptable format for the generation and presentation of deformation monitoring data should also be developed. An acceptable format for the generation and presentation of deformation monitoring data should also be developed.

“Geodetic solutions to the spatial dynamics of Lake Chad retreating shorelines should be adopted for sustainable planning and management of the socio-economic activities and the mitigation of environmental impacts of the shoreline retreat, particularly as it relates to the Nigeria border sectors where significant variations are noticeable.

“Geodesy should be considered to stand alone as a full departmental programme in an appropriate faculty/school within university and polytechnic systems to deeply enrich researches in geodesy options like space geodesy, marine geodesy and geophysical exploration amongst others”.

The Nigerian Navy has apprehended 35 suspected oil thieves and seized from them 408 drums of suspected illegal refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Akwa Ibom State.

The Naval Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of the state, Navy Capt. Mohammed Abu who paraded the suspects to newsmen on Wednesday said they were apprehended on November 26, 2021 while on routine patrol.

The suspects he said will be handed over to operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ibaka Mbo Local Government Area after their parade.

He said, “I will be handing over the suspects and exhibits of wooden boats that were intercepted by the NNS Thunder on the Nov. 26, at high sea having infracted economic policy of the country.

“The Chief of the Naval Staff has given a clear directive to Nigerian Navy to free the waterways of illegalities and other maritime crimes.

“So, having said this, we have three wooden boats which were conveying 408 drums of AGO and 40 drums of PMS mixed with oil, 906 empty drums and 35 male suspects are here before you.

“I am handing them over to you, as the Prosecuting Agency to carry out further investigation and prosecute them accordingly and revert to the Nigerian Navy on the outcome,” Abu said.

The commanding officer said the arrest of the suspected vandals has sent messages to criminals that the Nigerian Navy would not relent in ensuring all economic sabotage in the Nigerian maritime space is punished.

“This arrest is to send a message to those vandals of our crude oil pipelines that the CNS has zero-tolerance for crude oil theft and our ships are out there looking for them and we will arrest them until they are out of our maritime domain,” he said.

He appealed to smugglers and vandals of petroleum products to stay out of the business, as the base would not relent in its continuous patrol to sustain the directive of the CNS and rid criminal elements out of Nigeria waterways.

“I deployed our boats and identified the creeks where they are operating within Mbo waterways. As I speak to you, I have three of our boats that have choked them up in creeks within the waterways at Unyenge, Okposo and Ikang.”

Meanwhile, the Head of Anti Vandals, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom Command, Assistant Commandant of Corps, Adamu Jafaaru, received the suspects and the exhibits on behalf of the NSCDC.

Jafaaru said the agency would carry out thorough investigations on the suspects and all those culpable would be arraigned in court soon.

He warned vandals to desist from sabotaging the economy of the nation, stressing that the NSCDC would not relent in their mandate of protecting government critical infrastructure.

“I want to assure you all that as the Nigerian Navy handed over the suspects and exhibits to us as the Prosecuting Agency. We will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure diligent prosecution of those involved in this economic sabotage of the nation.” He said.
