Zamfara assembly urges FG to lift ban on solid mineral resources

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to lift the ban on solid mineral resources following a legal framework for direct foreign investment especially on solid minerals in the state.

According to a press statement signed by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Hon. Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the passage of the bill into law that allows for the establishment of the Directorate of Investment and Public-private partnership and for other matters connected therewith 2021.

“Presenting his report before the hallowed chamber, for consideration and possible passage into law, the chairman House standing Committee on commerce and industries, Hon Mansur Muhammad Daki Takwas informed his colleagues that the bill was first mentioned on the floor of the House on Wednesday 26th February 2020 and was also given a second reading on 11th February 2021 and was sent to his committee for proper scrutiny.

“Since then, this committee delved into action by consulting widely with all the relevant stakeholders and putting into account positive contributions of Hon members during the second reading of the bill to really justify the need to have this bill passed into law,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, after careful considerations, evaluation and critical analysis of all the submissions and observations expressed during the scrutiny of the bill, the committee come up with some far-reaching recommendations.

“These recommendations when dully followed will pave way for a legal framework for local and international investors to invest freely without any hitch especially in the area of solid minerals,” he added.

He then solicited for the support and corporation of his colleagues for the bill to be passed without further delay and also gave it a third and final reading for the government and good people of the state to benefit with enormous content and verse legal framework contained in the bill.

The statement noted that shortly after laying the report before the Assembly, Speaker, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya who presided over the plenary allowed for contributions and observations from the members before considering the passage of the bill into law.

“Leading debate on the matter, the deputy House leader, Hon. Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu commended the slight of the committee for arriving at the decision, saying that for the first time in the political history of Zamfara, the state now has a legal framework for would-be investors to come and have a direct local and international investment in the state,” he said.

He then called on his colleagues to give the bill maximum and accelerated passage and forward a clean copy to the executive governor for his assent for the state to start enjoying the drivable benefits of the bill.

Also contributing, a member representing Tsafe West constituency Hon Aliyu Namaigora Danjibga added his voice on the matter describing the bill as timely.

While directing for the passage of the bill into law, speaker Magarya ordered the clerk to the House to give the bill third reading and saluted the courage of the committee on commerce and industries for attaining this feat of legislative development.

According to the Speaker, with this development the state is now set to receive and accommodate local and international investors who are willing to come and invest in the state, calling on the federal government to consider lifting the ban on mining activities in the state and other neighbouring states of Zamfara to ensure true federalism as enshrined in the constitution.

The Speaker however directed Deputy House Leader,Hon. Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu to adjourn the plenary to Wednesday.

Reports circulating online by blogs had it that some celebrities are gay, seeking that they come out publicly and stop deceiving young girls.

Don Jazzy was among the celebrities that was called out in the report.

Reacting to the rumors on his Instagram page, Don Jazzy promised to come out following the accusation.

On his Instagram page, he wrote: “So I hear I’m gay all the time anyways click link in my bio to subscribe because I’m going to be coming out there.”

We are suffering, hungry, we need our November salary – Policemen

Some policemen from different formations and commands across the country have raised the alarm over the non-payment of their November salaries.

They made this disclosure when they spoke with DAILY POST on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

The officers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, insisted the non-payment of their November salary has compounded their suffering.

The officers, who said that they are hungry, said that other security agents have been paid their November salaries.

The officers noted several attempts to get their salary up till Wednesday have proved to be abortive.

They explained that the police authority in a signal do not state when their salaries would be paid.

One of the officers said, “Help us shout it loud and clear, no November salary for police, the signal above indicated like that.

“All others security agents have been paid. What is our offense, is it a curse to be in Nigeria police?”

Another officer said that anyone who reveal his or her identity would be accused of leaking official secret.

“Economic crunch has crushed most of us due to irrational cost of living, an hungry man is an hangry.

“Police is seriously hunting any one that air his views, they say you are leaking official secret, they want you to remain zombie, suffering and smelling, please cover the identity”.

Another police officer in his own submission said, “It is lame excuses, police can not bare the brunt, is not our fault it is leadership failures, for Christ sake all others security agents have been paid since last week, today is 8/12, how do they want us to survive when we are not doing other jobs or to go and commit crimes.”

But, the police authority in a signal issued by Force Headquarters in Abuja and obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday, noted that the delay was due to delay in processing of funds from the federal ministry of finance.

The signal addressed to various commands and formations reads, “Information received from IPPIS unit of OAGF indicates delay in processing of funds from federal ministry of finance for payment of November 2021 salaries which that there will be delay in payment of November 2021 salary.”
