Are You A Hopeless Romantic Or Too Much Of An Idealist In Love? Signs You’re Living In A Dream World

Published

on

iStock 1204675309

Thanks to Disney princesses, movies like The Notebook, and people like John Legend flying across the world just to watch Love Island with Chrissy Teigen, it’s easy to have a skewed view of what love is. The problem with being a hopeless romantic is that you often feel disappointed when romance doesn’t play out the way you think it should. Keep reading for some signs that you’re just a bit too much of an idealist when it comes to love.

You think fighting is the end of the world.

It’s understandable that some people assume fighting in a relationship means that the relationship is doomed. No one enjoys arguing with the person they love! While constant fighting can indicate that there is a problem, healthy arguments every now and then do not mean that the relationship is not going well. Arguments are a good thing because they allow you to sort out your issues rather than suppress them. Getting through those arguments can also bring you closer together.

You’re looking for perfection.
iStock 1069131934
Sadly, if you’re looking for someone who’s perfect, you’re going to end up disappointed. No one is perfect, not even Harry Styles. No matter who you date, they’ll invariably have something wrong with them. Rather than looking for someone with no flaws, look instead for someone you like enough for their flaws to not matter.

You want to be perfect.
iStock 904583832
Just as you can’t be with someone who’s perfect, you also can’t be a perfect person. Yes, it’s tragic, but you’ll never be perfect. So don’t wait until you’ve lost this much weight or got this job before seeking a relationship. If you want one now, then you’re ready for one now, just as you are.

You want a partner with no baggage.
iStock 520890694
In an ideal world, the person you fall in love with won’t have any baggage. But in the real world, the majority of people have some kind of baggage. Whether it’s an ex, annoying family members, children, debt, or something else, most people come with things that their future partner will have to deal with. That’s not to say that you have to be open to dating a guy with kids or a woman who’s got major trust issues. If something is a deal-breaker for you, then it is. But just be aware that most people have some kind of baggage.

Your standards revolve around looks.
iStock 684256996
Again, if something’s a deal-breaker for you, then you can’t help that. And similarly, you can’t choose to be physically attracted to someone if you’re not feeling it. That said, it’s not a good idea to date someone based on their looks alone. If you decide that what you want in a guy is for him to be over six foot with brown eyes and broad shoulders, you’re less likely to care about more important things, like how he treats you.

You expect life to be like the movies.
iStock 000071852711 Small
If you’ve been watching too much Disney or too many rom-coms, then you may have developed an unrealistic idea of love. No, your ultimate kiss probably won’t be with a guy hanging upside down in the rain. If you tell your Hinge date that you’re flying to a faraway place, she probably won’t rock up at the airport and try to stop you from boarding. Don’t expect real life to happen like that. And then if it ever does, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

You want a relationship to solve all your problems.
iStock 935982024
Relationships can dramatically improve your life. The right ones can bring happiness. And after experiencing the best ones, it’ll be hard to imagine your life without them. But that doesn’t mean relationships can solve all of your problems. Expecting a partner to rescue you puts way too much pressure on them, and will leave you feeling majorly disappointed. In life, a relationship can be a source of joy and light in your life, but you still have to rescue yourself. No matter how great it is, it won’t magically solve all of your problems.

You expect to feel happy all the time in a relationship.
iStock 000057614936 Small e1455908988332
If you don’t feel happy all of the time with your partner, it’s not necessarily a red flag. Life comes in ups and downs, relationships included. You may go through rough patches with your partner but it doesn’t mean that the relationship is doomed or unhealthy. As long as overall your relationship makes you feel happy, it’s okay for it to bring hard moments too.

Will He Ever Be Your Boyfriend? 8 Signs You’ll Never Have A Real Relationship With Him

Published

on

iStock 1292423320

If there’s one thing that forces a person to overthink, it’s an emotionally unavailable man. Particularly when he’s a narcissist and doesn’t care about you. Your relationship has no future, but that’s easier to say in the abstract than to actually see. When it’s happening to you, you never see the signs. I’m here to help clarify the situation so you can stop wasting your time on a guy who will never commit. It’s time to face the facts: he’ll never be your boyfriend.

He always cancels on you.

It’s one thing to have a scheduling conflict or a last-minute family crisis come up, but it’s quite another to have someone play you for a fool. If they’re always bailing on you or abandoning date night, they aren’t respecting you or your time. They expect you to be waiting around for them without any consideration to what you have going on. If you feel like you have to drop everything for a guy who gives you inconstant affection, that’s not love. That’s addiction.

You always have to ask him out.
iStock 000059737026 Small
Again, I’m all for women taking the driving seat in dating rituals and mixing things up and asking the guy out, but you have to at least reciprocate the effort. There’s nothing quite like the chase, but when your partner is so reluctant to spend time with you, it’s a bit of a hint. He needs to show you that he’s interested too, and if he doesn’t do the bare minimum, he’s hardly in it for the long haul. He’s using you if he never takes you out.

He doesn’t introduce you to his friends.
pexels photo 341520
There’s nothing quite like feeling like you’re being kept a secret. It quells the passion, a little. You wonder if he’s ashamed of you, or of his friends, but either way, he’s not sharing his life. He’s keeping everything separate and at bay. It shows how emotionally unavailable he is. Unwilling to risk his own emotions by getting close to you.

He never talks about his family.
iStock 520890694
How many siblings does he have? What do his parents do? Where is his hometown? You realize that you don’t know the answer to these questions and suddenly you don’t know him at all. He’s a shell of a man and hasn’t shown you any of his vulnerabilities. This is how you know he’s never going to be your boyfriend. He isn’t invested.

You feel insecure around him.
iStock 1024724732
He is so focused on his own life and narcissistic behaviors that he can’t be bothered to account for your insecurities. He isn’t willing to grow and be intimate with you. Honestly, he just wants the attention and validation. Don’t expect to get any in return.

He points out your flaws constantly.
iStock 639589362
Do you need a kind friend to occasionally remind you that you have spinach in your teeth on picture day? Yes. Do you need the person who supposedly cares more about you than anyone in the world telling you that you could stand to lose a few pounds? God, no. These are the people who use narcissistic honesty as a way of feeling better about themselves. They aren’t trying to help you or develop you as a person, they’re just elevating themselves. It’s a superiority complex, and these people don’t care about you.

He corrects your grammar in public.
iStock 948030730
If there’s one thing that boils my blood it’s a man with a philosophy degree that makes sure everyone in the tri-state area knows it. I know that technically speaking, grammar is important, but there’s always a rule of ‘when in Rome’. This means that if it sounds right, that’s close enough. Therefore, when pretentious people correct me to ‘whom’ in public just to put me in my place and elevate them, they’re lucky if they avoid a slap. Don’t dismiss women in public just because you think you’re more educated than them. If your guy does that, he’s embarrassing you. Don’t let him.

He makes you ask for directions when you get lost.
iStock 1137948904
Or, he gets you to call AAA when the car breaks down on the highway. He’s insecure in his masculinity and more interested in protecting that than respecting you. He sees you as a customer service representative — there to serve him rather than have a relationship with.

It sounds stark when you see it all laid out on the page like this, but these are the harsh lessons we all need to learn. We owe ourselves better than someone who is not in it for the long haul. Trust me.

10 Fun Christmas-Themed Dates To Try With Your Boyfriend

Published

on

iStock 1286820591

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! If you love the holiday season (and unless you’re the Grinch, who doesn’t?), there’s no reason you shouldn’t incorporate all that cheer into your dates with your partner. If you’re not sure how to do that, here are some Christmas-themed dates to try that are a whole lot of fun and an opportunity to create memories you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Go ice skating.

The ice skating rinks are a great way to spend time together and get that Christmas-y winter vibe! Also, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been on three dates or you’ve been together for six years– ice skating is just plain fun! Put on those skates and get out on the rink. Even if you both have to hold onto the railing, use this as a chance to laugh together. Hand holding is encouraged! After you’re done skating, drink some hot cocoa to warm up. Of all the Christmas-themed dates, this might be the most popular, for good reason!

Try something from a different culture.
iStock 1137948904
Obviously, if you’re looking at this list, you’re looking for something new to try. But consider looking for ideas outside of your own culture. Start by googling holiday traditions in different countries and see if there are some that you’d like to try. For example, in Iceland, it’s tradition to gift books on Christmas Eve and then stay up all night reading and eating chocolate together. Get some inspiration from countries around the world and find something that you’d like to try out with your partner.

Watch a performance of The Nutcracker.
pexels photo 341520
Nothing says Christmas quite like the sugar plum fairy, after all. This ballet is a holiday staple, and if you haven’t seen it before, now’s your chance to show it to your date as well. The ballet is so beautiful, and by attending, you get to support your local ballet company. Plus, it’s a little something different than going to see a movie. This is another of the best Christmas-themed dates you could try.

Build a gingerbread house.
iStock 50370428 SMALL
Gingerbread houses are a festive decoration at this time of year. Why not build one with your partner? You can make gingerbread at home and cut out the shapes yourself, or you can buy a pre-made kit from the store so you can focus on decorating. You could even take your boyfriend to the store to buy the candy before you start decorating. And don’t forget the icing! If you want even more of a challenge, you can make it a competition. You decorate one house and your partner decorates the other. Then let your Instagram followers vote on the final winner! (That is unless your gingerbread house collapses halfway through.)

Go for a midnight walk.
iStock 683901034
There’s just something magical about late nights in winter. Take your boyfriend for a late-night walk this Christmastime. Enjoy the quiet and peacefulness after a long day. Or, if you’re not in the mood for a walk in the middle of the night, maybe you could go for a walk earlier in the evening to look at Christmas lights. Make sure to bundle up!

Bake a ton of Christmas cookies for the local nursing home.
iStock 646505636
Baking with your partner can be so much fun, especially when you’re baking cookies together. It’s up to you if you want to enlist their help from start to finish (finding recipes, shopping for ingredients, mixing the cookie dough…) or if you want to prep all the ingredients beforehand. Once you’re done baking and decorating all the cookies (and sampling a few!), arrange them on paper plates and cover them with foil. Then you and your partner can take them to your local nursing home for a special Christmas delivery!

Visit a Christmas craft show.
iStock 642004212
This is another of the great Christmas-themed dates you can try. Take some extra cash and check out your local craft fairs this Christmas season. It’s a great way to support your local artisans and get some quality time with your partner. You can use this as a chance to get some Christmas shopping done, or you can shop for ornaments to put on the other’s Christmas tree. Then finish it off by going back to your place to wrap your newly acquired Christmas gifts.

Make a giant Christmas playlist together.
iStock 000068627907 Small
All of us have our favorite Christmas music from our childhood years. Why not make a giant Christmas music playlist with your partner? This is an excellent thing to do while you’re doing something else like wrapping gifts or baking cookies. And, don’t be afraid to share the memories behind certain songs!

Take a snow day.
iStock 83651543 SMALL
Playing in the snow isn’t just for kids! If you live in a warmer climate, you might have to take a road trip to the nearest snow. If you live in a colder state, you might be able to have this date in your very own backyard. Build snowmen, make snow angels, and go sledding together. When you’re done with the snow, head inside and drink some hot coffee in front of a fireplace (or pull up a video of a fireplace on your TV). It will be the cutest date and you’ll both get to feel like kids again. Plus, it’s a perfect chance to take pictures for your Christmas cards this year.

Host an ugly sweater party.
iStock 77931114
You and your boyfriend could co-host an ugly sweater party, or you could attend someone else’s event. Either way, nothing says Christmas quite like a bunch of ugly Christmas sweaters. Combined with some of the other ideas on this list, you could make it a giant holiday bash, or more of a relaxed double date. Make sure to take lots of goofy pics with your boyfriend in his light-up llama sweater.

Signs You’ve Met Your Twin Flame: How You Know They’re Your Soulmate

Published

on

iStock 1186551439

You feel it all the way down to your bones. There’s just something about this person you’ve met that has you thinking, “I’ve known this person my whole life.” You’re pretty sure they’re your soulmate, but there’s something even deeper there too. Here are some signs you’ve met your twin flame and what that entails.

There’s an instant, intense attraction.

But it goes deeper than appearances. (And remember, not all twin flames are romantic; some are simply platonic.) It’s as if an invisible rope ties you to them, bringing you both closer to one another. That bond is instant, even if you’ve only spoken a few words to one another. They feel familiar, comparable to feeling like home.

You experience a strong emotional response.
iStock 476159752
Your feelings, both good and bad, are intense. There’s a heightened sense of awareness when you’re around them. Because you two connect on a deeper level, everything is amplified. As with an instant attraction, one of the biggest signs you’ve met your twin flame is that you may also feel a strong sense of yearning.

It’s an on-again, off-again relationship.
iStock 501607858
This could go for romantic involvement or platonic friendship. Either way, you’re bound to notice a lot of similarities between both of you. This can cause a lot of disagreements. Mix that with the intense emotions and you’ll find yourself in a rollercoaster relationship. No matter how many times you two separate, something brings you back together. Sometimes it’s not immediate either. It could take days, weeks, months, even years to reconnect—but when you do, it’s like no time has passed.

They reflect your insecurities and doubts.
iStock 905757206
Your twin flame, also known as your “mirror soul,” is there to help you on a divine journey. It may not feel like it, especially when everything is intense and familiar, but they display shared insecurities and doubts. That’s why the relationship can be very up and down. Their flaws and shortcomings are your own. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but they’re there to shine a light on how to improve yourself.

You want to be a better person because of them.
iStock 1157635346
Because they reflect your own insecurities and doubts, they’ll probably inspire you to be better. You see all the ways those shortcomings affect their life that you don’t want to repeat the same pattern. It’s easy to evolve when you’re an outsider looking in. The relationship will also tap into your potential. They’ll inspire you to push past whatever is holding you back.

Your life changes.
iStock 485523884
It seems impossible to believe that one person can shift so much in your life, but it happens. You may even get a sudden feeling that it’s going to happen, you just don’t know when, how, or why. Like we discussed previously, you cross paths with a twin flame for a specific reason. Most of it is to reveal your own insecurities, but not all of it is bad news. With all the information being revealed, it’s the key to self-improvement in the most divine form. So, when your twin flame enters your life, go with the flow. Chances are, your life will change for the better!

You share a lot (if not all) of the same hobbies.
iStock 807545414
It’s uncanny the similarities between twin flames. Not only do you connect on a deeper level, but the surface level things will also bear similarities. No matter your hobbies, even if they’re eccentric, it’s highly likely your twin flame will be into them too. However, this doesn’t only include loving pottery or rereading the same kinds of books over and over. You may also find the values amongst you two are shared as well. Maybe honesty is vital. Or maybe it’s staying true to yourself.

Your communication is effortless.
iStock 641970388
Thanks to all these shared similarities, you’ll find communication with your twin flame easy. Words flow, thoughts are well-developed, and there’s no miscommunication or confusion anywhere. Even on an off day you’ll find conversations just flow naturally. And the best part? Active listening. You both are attentive to the other’s feelings, therefore always listening and ready to tackle each other’s problems.

You can be yourself around them.
iStock 524091329
With your twin flame, there are no expectations. They don’t expect you to be a certain way around them. They accept you for who you are. You’ll feel inspired to be nothing but authentic towards them. That level of comfort will bring you out of your shell. It’s just another way your twin flame brightens your life while allowing you to blossom.

You experience synchronicity.
iStock 1141440541
Some days, when you’re talking with your twin flame, you’ll notice a lot of comparisons. Let’s say you were feeling sad earlier in the day. Most likely, it’ll turn out that your twin flame felt the same; maybe for the same reason or another. Situations like this happen whether you two are together or apart.

The signs you’ve met your twin flame and connect on a much deeper level aren’t always immediately obvious, but pay close attention and you just might be pleasantly surprised.
