Kaduna Peace Commission harps on harmonious relationship among Jema’a residents

The two Permanent Commissioners, in the Kaduna State Peace Commission, Mrs. Rebecca Sako John and Hajiya Khadijah Hawaja Gambo, on Thursday, urged Fanstwam and Fulani tribes in Zikpak Chiefdom, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State to shun violence and live in peace with one another.

Speaking during the meeting between the warring group in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna Thursday, Mrs. Rebecca Sako John said the concern of the Commission is to bring aggrieved parties to a round table, to broker peace and strengthen peaceful coexistence in crisis-ridden communities within the state without taking sides.

DAILY POST recalled that there have been a series of crises in the two communities leading to the loss of lives and properties.

Following this, the Kaduna State Peace Commission, drew representatives of traditional rulers, youth and women groups from the two warring communities with the sole aim to restore peace among the inhabitants in the area.

They commended the participants for trusting the Commission to mediate in resolving their problems and urged them to be sincere in their submissions.

The Permanent Commissioners in the commission said the Commission intends to organize a meeting to bring both Fulanis and locals together to discuss how to resolve their problems adding that, it will further rebuild confidence, trust and amongst them.

Contributing, the Director Training of Interfaith Mediation Centre and a member of the Nigerian Network of Facilitators, Mr. Bitrus DanGiwa, who accompanied the Commission to the meeting, emphasized the need for both parties to embrace peaceful coexistence to move the area forward.

He expressed dismay over the destruction of the long enjoyed peaceful coexistence between locals and Fulanis which he noted must be corrected in the interest of the younger generation.

Earlier while setting the tone for discussions at the meeting, the program officer in charge of Partnership and Coordination, Mr. Victor Abarshi, said the purpose of the meeting was for the participants to suggest ways forward in the series of engagements the Commission intends to have between the communities in order to avoid a repeat or reoccurrence of attacks.
