Rodgers will be proud to work as Man Utd boss – Board

Manchester United’s board is confident Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers would take the job if it was offered.

According to The Daily Star, United are growing increasingly confident of being able to make Brendan Rodgers as their next manager.

United bosses are keen to appoint a British boss should the club have no choice but to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And Old Trafford chiefs believe Rodgers would be keen on taking the job, provided a deal can be struck with his club Leicester.

Rodgers would be reluctant to leave the Foxes, but knows there is little more he can realistically achieve there – and would find the chance to manage United almost impossible to turn down.

Rodgers is believed to have a release clause in his contract should a Champions League club come calling.

But United wouldn’t hesitate in meeting it if they need to appoint a new boss.

Marcelo has already made the decision, though is willing to see out his current contract, rather than leave in January.

The wing-back has struggled for minutes this season.

Ismailov’s decision to quit his role last month, and last night’s confirmation of Brands’ exit, have left only three board of directors.

Chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive officer Denise Barrett-Baxendale and finance chief Grant Ingles are the only board members left.

But the club are fully intending to replace them and the arrival of further fresh faces has been discussed.
