Nigerians will be paid transport allowance after the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

Nigeria Will Exit Recession Q1, 2020 - Finance MinisterZainab Ahmed, minister of finance said this during a nwew interview on Thursday.

Ahmed said fuel subsidy is costing the country resources that should have been used for education and health.

The finance minister said the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) provides that petroleum products should be deregulated, adding that deregulation will take effect in July 2022.

“In making our plans at least in the 2022 budget, we assumed that this deregulation will take effect from July 2022,” she said.

Godwin Obaseki Zainab Ahmed Finance Minister KOKOnista KOKO TV Nigeria 2“While the act was passed. The president said there would be a one-year timeframe within which implementation will be made, moving from the status quo to the provisions of PIA.

“We assume that by June we will be able to exit the fuel subsidy, and we have made provision only up till June in the budget for fuel subsidy.

“And it is important that we exit this subsidy. It is costing us a significant amount of resources that we could have applied for education, health and critical infrastructure. It is a major waste and a major drain on the economy.”

Asked if the federal government is prepared for a scenario in which labour unions will reject fuel subsidy removal, the minister said the federal government is planning the deployment of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles as an alternative to petrol-aided vehicles.President Buhari Signs 2021 Budget, Finance Bill Into Law

Ahmed said the federal government is considering the payment of transport allowance to Nigerians for six or 12 months to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

“What we are doing now is — we’ve been negotiating with labour. We are planning and deploying CNG — which is an alternative to mass transit to PMS,” she added.

“But we are also looking at providing some palliatives for a large number of the population in terms of maybe a transport subsidy for a short period like six months or if it is long, maybe nine months or maximum 12 months.

“Transport subsidy that would be given directly to individuals. What is constraining us is the issue of registration. The national identity registration process is ongoing and we want to make sure that this subsidy goes into the hands of the right people.

“That we can make transfers to people using their BVNs, account number and national identity number, and we know that it has gone to the right people.

“That is part of the things we are negotiating and working on. We are also engaging with the World Bank in designing a programme that will help us to provide succour for at least a minimum of 6 months, maximum of 12 months to enable us to make that transition.”

Asked when the fuel subsidy regime would end, she said, “If you look at what I said earlier, as from July 2022, there is no provision for fuel subsidy.

Asked if Nigerians should forget fuel subsidy in July 2022, she said, “Yes. We are trying to see if we can make it earlier. If we are able to get the funding to provide this alternative transport allowance, then we will be able to make it earlier.”Seriously? In one of the most incredible races in recent memory, the drivers were forced to return to the pits on TWO separate occasions after red flags were waved.

Prior to the first restart Verstappen led Hamilton having not yet pitted during the race.

Hamilton then looked to have passed Verstappen at the restart before the Dutchman went over the curb to try and defend the lead.

Verstappen was then penalised for the move but not before Sergio Perez and Nikita Mazepin crashed to signal another red flag.

A second restart then saw Verstappen come from behind Esteban Ocon and Hamilton to retake the lead.

But the Brit would eventually get back in front of his title rival in the latter stages of the race to move level on points in the standings.Max Verstappen Lewis Hamilton Grand Prix KOKO TV Nigeria 4

“Who Does He Think He Is? He Was Losing Every Final Until Salah, Mane, Matip Came To His Rescue” – Senegal Boss Aliou Cisse Blasts Jurgen Klopp For Calling AFCON A Small Tournament

Senegal manager Aliou Cisse has hit back at Jurgen Klopp’s remarks over the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), suggesting the Liverpool manager owed his success to players from the continent.

Last month, the German caused a stir as he described the AFCON as a ‘small tournament’ following Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Arsenal.

Asked whether he was relieved there was no international break until March, Klopp replied: ‘I’ve heard that so often that there’s no international break until March.

Liverpool are set to lose several of their stars, including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for the tournament, which runs from January 9 until February 6 next year.

While Klopp subsequently backtracked, Cisse felt he had showed a lack of respect for the tournament and had a swipe at the German’s track record before he managed the likes of Salah and Mane.

‘Who does he think he is? I manage Senegal and my players play for Klopp at Liverpool,’ he told broadcaster iTV Senegal.

‘I respect Liverpool but not Klopp who undermines African football events. He is where he is today because of African footballers.

‘He was losing every final until Salah, Mane, Matip came to his rescue to win his first-ever major European final.’

Cisse, who played in the Premier League with Birmingham City and Portsmouth, pointed out that the AFCON featured the same number of teams as the Euros – 24 – and the quality was just as good.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Porto in the Champions League last week, Klopp clarified his comments had been misinterpreted.

‘I didn’t mean it like that. I don’t know why you understand it like that,’ he told a journalist, who had suggested his comments had offended African players and fans.

‘It’s not even close to the idea in my mind that I want to talk about AFCON as a little tournament, or the continent of Africa like a little continent, not at all.

“What I meant is, because people said, and if you watch the full press conference, if you wanted to understand it in the right way you could have understood it in the right way.’

The Liverpool boss refuted the suggestion the AFCON was not on the same level of its other continental counterparts.

‘There’s still a tournament. A big one. We lose our best players to the Africa Cup of Nations,’ he continued.

‘I’m not a native speaker, but if you want to understand me wrong you can do that all the time. I know that I would never think like this.’ Super Eagles Vs Liberia AFCON KOKO TV NG 2
