Draghi’s assault on democracy: protest ban in Italy
As in the most predictable of theatrical scenarios, after having skilfully prepared the ground for a few months, the loop is closed and the Draghi-Lamorgese government has delivered the coup de grâce: in the Italy of recovery-and-resilience, demonstrations will be banned.
This denouement was prepared in several stages.
The first occurred on October 9, when “reckless” management of public order in Rome allowed neo-fascist groups to storm the national headquarters of the CGIL, after having announced it two hours earlier from the podium in the Piazza del Popolo.
Turin, October 11: Draghi burned in effigy during the general strike
The second was in the run-up to the G20 on 30-31 October, when a three-week press campaign was built on non-existent alarms in reference to the social movement protests, which brought the army onto the streets and snipers onto the rooftops to confront none other than the young environmentalist generation of Fridays for Future. Naturally, the success of the mobilizations is attributed to the Ministry of the Interior, which “prevented” them from causing public disorder.
It only takes one drop to break the camel’s back: the announcement of a possible gathering of infected people due to the repeated “No Green Pass” demonstrations in the city of Trieste and the stance of the city’s mayor who, without any sense of moderation or derision, is crying out for the adoption of special laws “as in the days of the Red Brigades”.
The soup is served, and the Draghi government – not content with having imposed an embedded parliament, totally aligned with its political choices in ...-pandemic period – is trying to solve the other pole of the problem, represented by social conflict.
And here is the new package of measures announced in the press by Minister Lamorgese, which, of course, does not ignore the right to demonstrate (article 21 of the Constitution), but places it after the “right” of citizens not to participate in processions (as if it were obligatory) and after the “right” of shopkeepers to reap the usual profits from holiday shopping and, even more so, from Christmas shopping.
Parades will be prohibited in the historic centers of cities, in all shopping streets and near sensitive points. And, as if this were not enough, in the absence of “specific needs and guarantees” (who decides?) – parades as such will be prohibited and only static demonstrations and sit-ins will be allowed.
The picture is quite clear. The pandemic has highlighted all the contradictions and the general unsustainability of a model of society based on the profit economy. The Draghi government has made it its mission to continue this model at all costs.
Thus, we have a National Recovery and Resilience Plan aimed at satisfying corporations and mortifying labor and its rights; a tax policy aimed at freeing the wealthy classes from unbearable taxes, once again dumped on workers and pensioners; an ecological transition entirely devoted to greenwashing; a new wave of privatization of all local public services; an attack on the poor, through shameful measures such as the attempt to restrict the citizenship income and to reduce the allowance for the disabled.
All these measures will, of course, exacerbate people’s unease and lead to anger and social conflict.
How do we solve this? No problem, just ban it.
Besides, haven’t the great financial powers been saying for a long time that the constitutions of the countries of Southern Europe are unsuited to modernity because they are too impregnated with socialist ideas?
NB: a century ago, on November 9, 1921, Mussolini’s National Fascist Party was founded. It was a fair comment in passing…

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)

UK: People urged to get booster as UK approaches 20m top-up jabs
Booster programme is being accelerated with more vaccination centres and military support
All eligible over-18s will be offered a jab by the end of January
UK will celebrate one-year anniversary of first vaccine being administered next week
People have been urged to get a coronavirus (COVID-19) booster vaccine to top-up their protection this winter as 20 million people in the UK are expected to have had their third jabs today (Sunday 5 December 2021).
As of 2 December, a total of 19.4 million people have had their booster or third doses in the UK. 51 million have had a first dose and 46.4 million have had a second dose. The COVID-19 dashboard will be updated at 4pm with the latest figures.
Vaccines are the best way to protect people against COVID-19 and, in light of the new Omicron variant and following advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the government is expanding the booster programme to all adults over 18, with all those eligible being offered a top-up jab by the end of January, as well as halving the gap between doses to protect more people more quickly.
More than one million appointments (1,077,514) for a booster vaccine were booked in England in just 4 days between Monday and Thursday this week.
To speed up the vaccination programme, around 400 military personnel will be drafted in to support deployment, with 1,500 community pharmacy sites, additional hospital hubs, and pop-up sites opening in convenient locations across the country. Extra financial support to GPs, community pharmacies and primary care staff will help boost capacity and encourage more visits to those who are housebound.
Our priority remains to protect the most vulnerable first so everyone over the age of 40 who had their second dose at least 3 months ago will soon be able to book an appointment for their booster jab. Younger age groups will be invited by the NHS in order of age in due course.
On Wednesday 8 December, the UK will celebrate one-year since it became the first country in the world to administer an approved COVID-19 vaccine to Margaret Keenan in Coventry.
Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said:
Christmas is around the corner and it’s absolutely crucial that everybody who is eligible gets their booster jab to top-up their immunity before spending time with loved ones.
While our brilliant scientists learn more about the new Omicron variant, we need to do everything we can to strengthen our defences and vaccines are the best way to do that.
This is a national mission and we all have a role to play – so roll up your sleeves and get protected as soon as you can.
The first real-world study on the effectiveness of booster vaccines against the Delta variant by the UK Health Security Agency shows top-up jabs boost protection back up to over 90% against symptomatic COVID-19 in adults aged over 50 2 weeks after being vaccinated. Data from the CovBoost trial, published on Friday [3 December], shows the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines being used in the UK as boosters give the best overall immune response.
It is not yet known whether existing vaccines are less effective against the Omicron variant, but it is unlikely they offer no effectiveness against serious disease.
Vaccines Minister Maggie Throup said:
Another brilliant milestone – thank you to all the GPs, pharmacists, NHS staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to save lives.
Getting your booster vaccine is the most important thing you can do ahead of Christmas to protect yourself and your family.
Please take up the offer and come forward for your first and second doses too if you haven’t already.
The government’s Vaccines Taskforce has signed new contracts with Moderna for 60 million doses in and Pfizer/BioNTech for 54 million doses for 2022 and 2023 to future proof the country’s vaccine programme. The deals include access to modified vaccines if they are needed to combat Omicron and future Variants of Concern, to prepare for all eventualities.
Data published last week by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows COVID-19 vaccines are safe for mothers and their babies, with good birth outcomes for vaccinated women who had their babies up to August this year. There were no consistent differences between vaccinated women and all women in the figures for stillbirths, low baby birthweights and premature births. Pregnant women have been urged to get their jabs to protect themselves and their babies as data shows that almost 1 in 5 COVID-19 patients who are most critically ill are pregnant women who have not been vaccinated.
Amanda Pritchard, NHS England’s chief executive, said:
This latest milestone shows just how hard the NHS is working to ensure that every person can receive a life-saving booster, and in the last week alone, over 1 million people booked their first, second or top-up jab.
But the emergence of the new variant is obviously a concern for us all and we are entering the most complex and challenging phase of the vaccination programme.
NHS staff are continuing to pull out all the stops to boost the most vulnerable as quickly as we possibly can and our message is clear.
If you are currently eligible for the booster or you have not yet had your first or second dose please do come forward for your jab. It will give yourself and your loved ones vital protection as we enter the festive season.
Flu is another winter virus that can be serious. To give people the best protection over winter, those eligible for a free flu vaccine should come forward and book an appointment at either their GP practice or their local pharmacy, or take it up when offered by their employer or other healthcare provider.
The government has launched a nationwide advertising campaign, encouraging people eligible to get their booster and flu jabs to protect themselves and their loved ones and help reduce pressures on the NHS. This includes outdoor billboards, broadcast and community radio and TV.
The offer of a first and second COVID-19 vaccine remains open to anyone who is eligible. Vaccines are available free of charge and from thousands of vaccine centres, GP practices and pharmacies. Around 98% of people live within 10 miles of a vaccination centre in England.
911 Center Shooting Sees One Dispatcher Accidentally Kill Another While Trading Guns: Police
A 911 operator inadvertently killed a coworker at a dispatch center in Kentucky on Friday, police said.
The Bell County Kentucky Sheriff’s Department said that two dispatchers at the center were trading firearms when one of the guns accidentally discharged and killed 23-year-old Kyle Garrett.
Sheriff Mitch Williams said that Garrett and Colton, the other dispatcher, were “cousins and best friends.”
“They grew up together and shared the hobby of casual gun trading,” he added. “This is a tragedy that you can never prepare for. We are asking for prayers for the family of Kyle and Colton. We also ask that you pray for the dispatchers, deputies, and first responders that work alongside them every day.”
Protocols that prohibit non-sworn personnel from bringing weapons into a 911 center were not followed, he added.
The incident is still being investigated, and an autopsy will be performed on Garrett.
The tragedy follows several accidental gun shootings occurring during the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. In Georgia, a 3-year-old fatally shot his 5-year-old cousin, using a handgun that belonged to his father.
Meanwhile, a teenager accidentally fatally shot a 5-year-old relative in Minnesota. Police said that he was “attempting to make a social media video” and that he was “handling a gun” at the time of the incident.
Another accidental shooting involved a father in Texas who unintentionally shot and killed his daughter with a high-power rifle during a hunting trip. The girl had suffered life-threatening injuries from the gunshot and couldn’t be saved at the medical center that she was transported to.
Also last month, a man was accused of accidentally firing a gun at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Kenny Wells was at the security checkpoint when a TSA worker thoroughly searched his bag after seeing a “prohibited item” in the X-ray. Though the agent told him not to touch the bag, Wells pounced to take the gun out of the bag, causing the gun to discharge.
Consequently, thousands of people were running in panic, while Wells fled the scene with the gun and threw it away in a trash can before he left the airport. Authorities found the gun a few days later. Law enforcement kept searching for Wells until he turned himself in at Clayton County jail on Tuesday.
FEC Data Show Twitter Employees Made 99% Of Online Political Donations To Democrats: Report
Twitter employees donated to Democrats online by a nearly-unanimous margin in 2021, according to new data from the Federal Elections Commission.
The data, reported by the New York Post, showed that fully 99% of the online political donations made by Twitter employees this year went to Democrats. Employees of the social media giant made 561 contributions, totaling $14,848.98, through the Democrat Party’s fundraising apparatus, ActBlue. Just eight donations were made through the Republican Party’s fundraising counterpart, WinRed.
Ned Segal, Twitter’s Chief Financial Officer, donated $5,800, the legal maximum donation an individual can give, to Democratic Pennsylvania Congressman Conor Lamb. Seksom Suriyapa also donated the legal maximum to Democrat California Representative Ro Khanna. Evan Stern, one of the company’s in-house attorneys, donated $2,900 to Democratic Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Democratic Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock, both of whom are running for re-election to a full term in the U.S. Senate in the 2022 midterms. Stern also gave $2,900 to Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, who is running to replace retiring Republican Senator Pat Toomey in 2022.
“The one percent shocks. They have somebody who actually gave to the GOP. I’m stunned,” the Media Research Center’s Dan Gainor joked.
The largest donation of that one percent — just $250 — was given by former Twitter Vice President of Finance Rich Sullivan to Adam Kinzinger, the Republican congressman from Illinois who was one of 10 Republican Congresspeople to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump in January, and currently serves on the Committee investigating the events of January 6.
Kinzinger announced on October 30 that he would not be seeking re-election in 2022.
Gainor also pointed out that Twitter employees’ contributions to the Democrat Party go beyond financial. “Their day to day actions also contribute to that political party,” he said. “There was a time when you could give to one political party and still be fairhanded, but that time is long past.”
Twitter infamously censored a story broken by the New York Post in October of 2020, which revealed information from Hunter Biden’s personal laptop about how the son of President Joe Biden allegedly introduced his father to a Ukranian businessman, as well as a number of compromising pictures of the younger Biden. The Federal Elections Commission recently dismissed a complaint filed by the Republican National Committee alleging that Twitter’s suppression of the story was an “illegal in-kind contribution” to President Joe Biden’s campaign. The Daily Wire reported:
[T]he FEC dismissed the complaint, saying Twitter had “credibly explained” why it blocked ... link, even though the social media outlet eventually reversed its decision and CEO Jack Dorsey called that decision a “mistake.”…
The FEC also dismissed complaints that Twitter censored conservatives on its platform:
The FEC also rejected allegations that Twitter also violates election laws by limiting the reach of conservative users without explanation and “shadow banning” them. The FEC also disagreed that the social media violated election laws by treating conservatives differently than liberals, such as suppressing anti-Biden content and labeling Trump’s tweets as misinformation but not doing the same for Democrats. The FEC insisted those claims were “vague, speculative and unsupported by the available information.”
News of the employees’ contributions comes as controversy arises over new Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, who posted several tweets in the past expressing biased sentiments against conservatives and white people, and said in an interview that Twitter is not supposed to be “bound by the First Amendment.”
