Benefits of monkey kola fruit and side effects? Actually, health benefits of monkey kola are myriad or many, and the last time I tasted the yellow monkey kola after so many years, was just few months back when I visited my maternal home in Umuahum, Ndegwu, Owerri West, Imo State.

It was given to me immediately it fell down from its tree while I was present discussing with my cousin. And my dearest cousin, by name Emmanuel, handed it over to me.

Actually, I have been eating monkey kola or Achicha as it’s being called in Igbo language, since I was small but wasn’t interested to know what it does to body or its health benefits.

However, I that God over life and knowledge, and I’m here as blogger to share with you some of the health benefits of monkey kola and its side effects.

And I personally believe that you will be excited to know more about this very wonderful fruit known as Achicha or monkey kola.

Monkey kola, is a name given to some edible wild relatives of West African kola nut.

The yellow monkey kola is being planted at home or garden, while the red monkey kola is mostly found in the bush.

Its scientific name includes Cola lateritia K. Schum (the red pulp), C. lepidota (the white pulp), and C. pachycarpa K. Schum (the yellow pulp). All are botanical names while the English name is monkey kola.

These are indigenous tropical fruit species that thrive in the humid woods of West and Central Africa.

In Nigeria however, monkey kola is referred to as Achicha, Utu, Ochicha, or Ochiricha in Igbo, Obi Edun in Yoruba. It’s also known as Ndiya in Efik/Ibibio.

Monkey kola fruit is naturally packed healthy plant species with a nutritious taste that may be found in villages and homes.

Humans and a few animals, such as baboons, monkeys, and other primates, consume the fruit pulp a lot especially in Nigeria.

This African fruit especially the yellow monkey kola, with all of its nutritional advantages, needs greater awareness and attention so that people will be aware of it and its incredible health benefits.

Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has confirmed rumours of her welcoming a daughter through a surrogate mother.

After days of keeping silent since the rumours began, the actress finally opened up in an interview with Stella Korkus, which was published on Friday.

Surrogacy is a practice where a woman (a surrogate) carries a child for another person through artificial insemination of eggs.

Confirming the news, Edo stated that the daughter was genetically hers because her eggs were used to fertilize the child.

She said, “Yes I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy. The eggs are mine and so genetically, she’s my blood.

“I chose this path to fulfil my dream of becoming a mother. I still have a good number of eggs frozen in case I decide to do surrogacy again or carry my baby myself.”

She also mentioned that she had the daughter almost a year ago, stating that she planned on breaking the news herself.

“I was hoping to talk about her on her first birthday in a few months but mischief makers beat me to it and spoilt the beautiful story with lies,” Edo said.

Reacting to rumours that her child’s father was a married man, identified as Kome, the actress said, “It is so sad that in Nigeria, when a ‘single’ woman is friends with a guy, it must mean to people that they are dating.

“Kome has been my friend for years and that’s what it is, period. He is a responsible family man and doesn’t deserve to be dragged into my motherhood story.”

She then revealed that she opted for a donor because of her fears saying, “I opted for a donor for me and my baby’s peace of mind.

“Another major reason I opted for a donor is because it scares me so much when I see banter and controversies between a mother and a father over a baby in public forums.”

During the interview, Edo also opened up about her past miscarriages, pointing out that her experience did not influence her decision on surrogacy.

“I had a series of miscarriages in the past but that wasn’t my reason for going this route .I still hope to carry babies In my womb in the future, God willing,” the actress said.
