Gombe Bulls clash my toughest challenge yet – Odaudu

Ogor Odaudu

Rivers Hoopers head coach Ogoh Odaudu says his team need to play better when they face Gombe Bulls in their last group game on Sunday.

Despite recording two wins in their first two Group A games of the Final 8 organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports (FMYSD), Odaudu has demanded more from his boys.

Rivers Hoopers beat Benue Braves and Police Baton to qualify for the semi finals scheduled to take place on Monday.

“We got away with victory in both games which was the first part but I didn’t think we played that well considering the competition that is ahead of us. We need to get our acts together. Unfortunately, we won’t have the time to practice or do anything before that game but hopefully we come out victorious,” said Odaudu.

Ahead of the game against Gombe Bulls on Sunday at 5pm, the Benue-born coach expects a tough encounter against a team with similar style and structure like his.

“It’s going to be a tough game because Gombe Bulls are a more experienced side. It is going to be a better game. We are not just going to be running around chasing people all over, we are going to play against a team that has a structure just like our team. I expect it to be a lot more competitive. Hopefully, we run away with the victory which is our goal because we want to come top in our group and face the second-best team in the other group.”

Odaudu is aware of the title-winning tag on his team and expectations but he is hopeful they won’t bottle it.

“We have been touted as a favourite team of the people but here it is going to be on the court. They (Gombe Bulls) want to show the world they can beat Rivers Hoopers and Rivers Hoopers want to maintain their integrity and status. We are not just the chosen ones but we can actually beat Gombe Bulls so that’s the way it will look like.”

Germany World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus has defended Jude Bellingham.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been fined by the German Federation after referencing ref Felix Zwayer’s past match fixing ban following defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend.

Matthaus said: “His words were inappropriate and he would probably never say them again today, but I can understand his frustration and anger after the game ends.

“Something similar happened to me in Karlsruhe too.

“The adrenaline and the emotions you feel after losing such an important match due to a controversial decision are difficult to control, even if you don’t have to overdo it.”

Real Madrid captain, Marcelo is ready to return home to Brazil in 2022.

Marcelo has already made the decision, though is willing to see out his current contract, rather than leave in January.

The wing-back has struggled for minutes this season.

Everton are ready to welcome two new directors.

The Liverpool Echo says Everton are planning to find two new board members following the departures of Marcel Brands and Sarvar Ismailov.

And further additions to the Goodison top table have not been ruled out.

Ismailov’s decision to quit his role last month, and last night’s confirmation of Brands’ exit, have left only three board of directors.

Chairman Bill Kenwright, chief executive officer Denise Barrett-Baxendale and finance chief Grant Ingles are the only board members left.

But the club are fully intending to replace them and the arrival of further fresh faces has been discussed.
