Months after bragging about making his son his Chief of Staff, Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has dared political stakeholders in the state by appointing him (son) Babajide, the Director General of the Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit, Governor’s Office (PPIMU).

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, while announcing a list of 14 new commissioners-designate and seven special advisers.

“The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has nominated 14 new commissioners-designate and seven special advisers,” the statement read.

“The commissioner nominees are as follows: Mrs Bamidele Ademola Olateju (Akoko South East), Otunba Adefarati Gboyega (Akoko South West), Rt Hon Olotu Fatai (Akoko North East), Dr. Julianah Oshadahun (Akoko North West), Otunba Dele Ologun (Akure North), Mr. Sunday Adekunle (Idanre) and Engr. Razaq Obe (Ifedore).

“Others are Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka (Ilaje), Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan (Irele), Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju (Odigbo), Mr. Femi Agagu (Okitipupa), Hon. Akinlosotu (Ondo East), Hon Omolola Fagbemi (Ondo West) and Chief Olayato Aribo (Ose).

“Those nominated for the position of Special Advisers include the following: Chief (Dr) Victor Ategbole, Dr. (Mrs) Wunmi Egbayelo Ilawole, Hon. (Barr) Tobi Ogunleye Felix, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, Mrs Olamide Falana, Dr . Francis Adedayo Faduyile and Mr Oyeniyi Oseni.

“In the same vein, the governor appointed Mr. Babajide Akeredolu as the Director General, Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU).

“The names of the nominees, especially the position of commissioner, will be forwarded to the House of Assembly for screening, clearance and confirmation.

“All nominated/appointed persons will be sworn in at a date to be announced later after the necessary legislative processes. Mr Governor wishes all nominated persons the best of luck,” the statement reads.

The appointment of Akeredolu’s son as a DG comes months after the governor had claimed Babajide had worked harder than many during his campaign and that there was nothing anyone could do if he decided to appoint him as his Chief of Staff.

While speaking at a dinner to mark his third year in office in March 2020. Akeredolu had said his son deserved any appointment he gets because he was a key member of his campaign team and had worked harder than most members of the team.

“When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my chief of staff, he can be; did you do more than him in the campaign?

“Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba in the campaign? How many?

“The young boy was going everywhere and all of us saw him but we decided not to because he wouldn’t want it.

“My son is satisfied, that’s why. If he is not, I will put him somewhere, there is nothing anybody can do. I will put him there, there is nothing you can do. Is he not my son? Is he not from Ondo state? Has he not worked?” Akeredolu had said.

C’River 2023: Did Sandy Onor just declare his intentions? – VIDEO

Published

on

Senator Sandy Onor

Did Senator Sandy Onor just declare his intentions to run for governor of Cross River State in 2023? Well, let’s find out.

As 2023 draws close, political statements with intentions have flooded the political space, with Cross River State, in particular, being the most flooded. Earlier, it was a political brouhaha as concerning zoning – where to zone the next Governorship position to; whether North, Central or South. Friends became foes, enemies became friends and so on as many political bigwigs made their statements.

It was also alleged that several political heavyweights in the Northern and Central Senatorial Districts of the state are interested in the Diamond Hill Seat. The Southern Senatorial District politicians, who claimed it’s their turn to run aren’t left out anyways.

However, on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Harvest and Thanksgiving Service officiated by Rev. Fr. Francis Agantem Eworo at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Iyamoyong in Obubra Local Government Area of the State, Sen. Sandy Onor, Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly made a statement that seems as if he is eying the State’s Government House, Calabar.

Onor said: “Obubra people and Iyamoyong people, in particular, open your eyes properly and stand by the people who speak the truth and who will help you politically. The time for deceit is gone”.

From the above statement, one may suggest that he is gathering support ahead of 2023 – even though he didn’t say it.

The Lawmaker also took time to tell part of his success story and how it started. He said: “In 1976, I was admitted into St. Brendan College, Iyamoyong, Obubra; we were in the forest but we bin sabi book too much. This big head wey I get so, na book fullam”.

He mentioned what he has done and intends to do for the community. “In politics, I have a deep feeling for Iyamoyong, very soon, I am sure a very big ICT (Information and Communication Technology) will be open here. I made provision for two; one for Holy Child Secondary School in honour of my wife, which has been done and the other one will be done in St. Brendan.

“In our first budget year, we tried to grade the Iyamoyong road, by the grace of God, we will be in a position very soon to tar the road”, Onor said.

Earlier speaking, Rev. Fr. Eworo admonished politicians to be of good behaviour and lead the people well. He also urged the people not to collect chicken-change but rather vote for who can alleviate their problems, during the forthcoming elections

Sen. Onor, however, made a donation of two million naira (NGN2,000,000) for the building of the new St. Patrick Catholic Church.

The event was attended by several political heavyweights of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and All Progressives Congress(APC), including former Governor Liyel Imoke, Sen. Jarigbe Agom, Senator representing Cross River North; Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, Member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency; Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong, Member representing Boki II State Constituency and several others who also made their donations.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the 35 chairmanship seats in Saturday’s local council election in Ekiti State.

The Chairman of the State Independent National Electoral Commission (EKSIEC), Justice Jide Aladejana, who announced the results of the election on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, said the APC secured 176 out of the 177 councillorship seats declared by the commission.

Aladejana said the commission had postponed the councillorship election in Erinjiyan ward after violence broke out during the poll in the town.

He commended the security agencies, the commission’s staff, and the electorate for the successful conduct of the election.
