Nigerian skit maker and comedian, Joshua Sunday, popularly known as DeGeneral, has released his first statement following his release from the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s custody on Monday.

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court on Monday, convicted the comedian alongside Caleb William, a cinematographer.

Popular aphrodisiac seller, Hauwa Muhammed also known as Jaruma, has been remanded in prison custody after attacking billionaire businessman, Ned Nwoko on social media.

Abuja Upper Area Court issued the remand order for Jaruma pending a bail hearing set for Friday.

The defendant was arraigned by the police following a petition by Nwoko to the FCT police command.

Nwoko had accused Jaruma of publishing falsehoods on her Instagram page against him and his wife, Regina Daniels, who is an actress.

He said Kayanmata seller claimed that she paid N10m to Regina to advertise her product but the actress reneged.

She subsequently went on Instagram to insult Nwoko, alleging that he is a victim of her Kayanmata.

The police subsequently arraigned Jaruma for defamation of character, false news publication and intimidation.

The Police Prosecutor, E. A Inegbenoise, told the court that Nwoko had reported the matter through a written petition from his lawyer to the FCT Police Command for proper investigation on January 20, 2021.

Inegbenoise pleaded with the court to allow Jaruma to remain in police custody pending investigation.

However, her lawyer, Mr James Odibe, in an oral application for bail, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on self-recognition or in the alternative, in the most liberal terms.

In his ruling, the judge, Ismailia Abdullahi, ruled that the defendant be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre pending the bail hearing on Friday. He further adjourned the matter till February 23, 2021 for trial.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted a comedian and skit maker, Joshua Sunday, popularly called De General, for unlawful possession of 14 grams of Tramadol.

Also convicted alongside the 22-year-old comedian, is Caleb Ojana William, who was accused of unlawful possession of 15 grams of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Marijuana.

Justice Daniel Osiagor convicted the two men after they pleaded guilty to a count each of unlawful possession of the banned substance, made against them by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The NDLEA through its prosecutor told the court that the two convicts on January 12 at No 2B, Saula Akinlolu Orchid, Lekki, Lagos State, had in their possession the banned substance without lawful authority.

The prosecutor had told the court that the offences committed by the convicts are contrary to and punishable under section 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ACT CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The prosecutor also urged the court to sentence the two men as prescribed by section 356(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, having pleaded guilty to the charge.

But in his judgment, Justice Osiagor declined to sentence the convicts. He cautioned them ‘to go and sin no more’.
