In a statement on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair conspired to facilitate the travel of a child to the country in order to harvest the minor’s organ.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

It stated that the child was in protective custody, while the police added that its operatives are working closely with partners on continued support.

However, the pair who were charged before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court have been denied bail and remanded till July 7.

Reacting in a tweet via his Twitter handle, Omokri stated that there must be an explanation for the organ harvesting case facing Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice in London.

The former presidential aide expressed doubt that the former Deputy Senate President will be convicted of alleged organ harvesting.

He stated that Igbo people have forgotten the development Ekweremadu attracted to his area and are acting as if he has already been convicted.

Omokri, however, expressed sadness about how the Enugu lawmaker is being treated like an orphan by his own people.

He wrote: “His own people have totally forgotten the development he attracted to his area and are acting like he has already been convicted. I doubt he will be convicted. There must be an explanation. The man is not a pauper. It is sad how he is treated as an orphan by his own.”
