Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman Olajade, has maintained optimism ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming clash against Ghana on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old was a revelation at the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, scoring three goals and getting into the team of the tournament.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Ghana and Mali during the course of the International break, and Lookman is ready to lead the line again.
Speaking at the training ground in Morocco yesterday, the former RB Leipzig man revealed that the team is in good spirits and is positive ahead of the clash against their ECOWAS rivals, Ghana.
“Another good session from us. We are getting prepared for the game, obviously on Friday. So, we are looking forward to it.”
Quizzed about the team’s reflections on their AFCON journey, Lookman revealed that the team had learned a lot, but the rollercoaster in Ivory Coast has made them much closer as a group.
“Obviously, at AFCON, many things happened. We have still got the same set of groups. We are still happy and together and obviously, some new faces as well in the squad. So, we are really happy to be back with the team. It is an opportunity for us to show once again the level we are at, the level we have shown at AFCON, the level that is expected of us. We are definitely looking forward to it,” the former Everton man said in the training session with the Super Eagles.
Nigeria’s silver medal at the AFCON 2023 tournament propelled them to the 28th position on the latest FIFA rankings. It was the first time since 2013 that the Super Eagles reached that height.
