“It is imperative that an investigation be conducted into the incident and those responsible for the mishandling of the distribution of palliatives be held accountable.
“We urge governments and individuals involved in distributing relief materials to adopt modern distribution methods to prevent any loss of life. The safety and well-being of students and citizens should always be prioritized.
“We also call on the university management to provide support and counseling services to the affected students. It is essential that they receive the necessary care and assistance during this challenging time. Let us learn from this tragic event and take the necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
Recall that some students of the university died and some were injured following the stampede that followed the distribution of palliative items to the students.
The exercise was to cushion the effects of the economic hardship in the country which has led to students in campuses experiencing discomfort in some ways.
