Nineteen-time English Premier League Champions, Liverpool, are keeping tabs on Atalanta and Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, ahead of a potential move, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR football, Arne Slot’s side sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old Nigerian international in action last week in Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal.
Liverpool are keeping tabs on the progress of the former RB Leipzig man, but it is unknown if they will make a move for the Nigerian as they currently have Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez as options in attack from the left wing.
Lookman has been outstanding for Atalanta since joining the club in 2022, scoring 33 goals and providing 19 assists in 81 games for the Bergamo-based side.
He was also world-class in their UEFA Europa League campaign last season, scoring a hat trick against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the final.
While Liverpool have loads of options on the left, Lookman’s versatility makes him a valuable asset as he can play anywhere across the front line, and will add another dynamic to the attack of the five-time UEFA Champions League winners.
On the flip side, Mohamed Salah’s contract expires next summer, and Liverpool are yet to start contract talks with the Egyptian, meaning he is free to enter into a pre-contract with other clubs starting from January. Should the 32-year-old exit Anfield, Lookman will be one to look at as a replacement.
Liverpool’s move might tempt Lookman
A return to the English Premier League could be quite exciting for the 26-year-old. As previously reported by Soccernet.ng, the former Leicester City man is keen on a return to England, and an opportunity to play for Liverpool will be hard to turn down.
His contract with Atalanta runs till the summer of 2026, and he could be made available next summer. With just one year left on his contract in 2025, Liverpool will be hoping to snap him up for a reasonable price.
The ex-Fulham man is a front runner for the African Player of the Year award after a stellar season with Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.
