Nigeria have been placed in Group B for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after the official draw ceremony held on Friday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Falcons, the most successful team in the history of the competition with 11 titles, will face 2022 WAFCON quarter-finalists Tunisia, as well as Botswana and Algeria.
In their recent friendly encounters with Algeria, the Super Falcons triumphed emphatically, securing a 6-1 aggregate victory across two matches.
Nigeria earned their spot in the tournament with a dominant 7-1 aggregate win over Cape Verde in the qualification rounds.
The 2024 edition will mark the 15th iteration of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with the first edition held in 1998.
Nigeria have qualified for every edition of the tournament, failing to reach the final only on three occasions.
However, the Super Falcons finished in fourth place at the 2022 tournament after a defeat to Zambia in the bronze medal match.
As preparations ramp up for the competition, the Super Falcons are still without a permanent head coach. Randy Waldrum resigned after the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, leaving Justin Madugu as the interim manager.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on July 5, 2024, and will conclude on July 26, 2024.
